Early Morning (Amrit Vela) Sadhana

“Sadhana means a given time and space in which you practice a technology to enhance your spirit. That’s called sadhana” Yogi Bhajan

Amrit Vela, the hours before sunrise, is an auspicious time to practice yoga or meditation. Across countless spiritual traditions and disciplines, these ambrosial hours are considered to be the most effective window for daily practice (‘sadhana’). Our corner of Earth is in a twilight zone with the divide between our world and the spirit realms at its thinnest. The vibration of the planet is at its gentlest, and the sound of our outer world is at its quietest.

There is something intensely beautiful and calibrating about entering sadhana at this time. About getting on your mat when the world is still dark, when your mind is only filled with sleep overhang instead of noise from the day. When you are essentially empty of distractions. In this state, your practice - yoga, meditation, or both - can beeline into working through whatever is held in the subconscious because the conscious mind is not yet carrying the day’s load. Instead of having to wade through a day’s sludge, the practice can go directly to the heart of our blocks and challenges.

In 1992 Yogi Bhajan gave us Aquarian Sadhana (see below for details) as a tool to support humanity through the immense energetic transition we are in. Though originally only given for a 21-year period, many yogis continue to practice this format.

But there are many different formats sadhana can take, and with Piscean structures crumbling all around us, an individual, tailored sadhana may fit you best - the most important thing is that you consciously develop your sadhana so that it supports you to clean and dissolve energy that is not aligned with your highest self. Within Amrit Nam Sarovar, we suggest these supportive elements to include in your practice:

Pranayama: the practice of pranayama refills all the energy bodies with the best quality and quantity of prana, then activates this prana through the different channels and energy bodies.

Kriya: Work through the physical body with a chosen kriya suited to your intention.

Meditation: focuses the mind and expands the sense of perception. It is also called nam simran (the remembering of your true identity).

Alignment: this is the time to receive guidance, inspiration, and to nourish your intuition. Every day, you open your channel, open your heart.

Dedication/Prayer: project your inner light and love toward any aspect of life on this planet. Express your gratitude and dedicate your love and light to any cause or person you feel drawn to at that moment.

Monthly Community Sadhana

Currently I offer a monthly community sadhana, dates and booking can be found here.

We start at 06:00 - I know this might sound a bit daunting, but give yourself the experience of prioritising your soul’s nourishment during these special hours in a group setting before ruling it out. Just try it once, see how different you feel, see how different your day feels!
